After three years, including the Championship win in 2011, unfortunately we will not be back in the APRC with Proton for 2013. It would have been great to try and win the title back, but I’m now looking at something a bit different to keep me motivated.
I've always loved bikes, be it mx or enduro, so I'm really excited about entering the Australian Safari on a KTM 500EXC. It's going to be a big challenge and I can't wait to get started but I'm sure after the 3500km in September I might have different feelings!!!
I've also started the build of a Historic MKII Escort so I can get a bit of sideways action in when needed.
Alister
Alister is competing in the APRC and Super 2000 World Rally Championship in 2012
Here is a list of the APRC 2012 events Whangarei, New Zealand: March 31-1 April Noumea, New Caledonia: 28-29 April Queensland, Australia: 26-27 May Johor, Malaysia: 14-15 July Hokkaido, Japan: 15-16 September Longyou, China: 27-28 October
I'm writing this earlier than I'd hoped after an early exit from Dakar. As I know from 2009 the Dakar is the toughest event in the Motorsport Calendar but with the improvements to the McRae Enduro I believed there was a good possibility of getting the car into the top 20 and with a bit of luck the top 10. Pro Dakar have done a great job and the car is now quicker and far stronger than in 2009 but unfortunately there was an electronic glitch in the Engine Management we just couldn't get on top of, which eventually caused our retirement. I'd like to thank Chris and the ProDakar team for the huge effort they put in and I look forward to the opportunity to working with them again.
I'm now looking forward to a new season with Proton where we'll defend our APRC title and compete on three WRC events starting with the Swedish Rally in February. It's going to be exciting being back in the WRC and especially Sweden after my last event there in 2002. There's been a fair bit of development back in MEM with the car and I can't wait to test prior to the rally. It's going to be a busy year and we'll try and keep you up to speed with how it's going.
All the best for 2012
