Colin & Alister drive in tribute to Richard Burns
Aug 13, 2005
Colin and Alister McRae received the biggest cheer of the day when Tony Mason and Jon Desborough introduced them to the thousands of spectators who attended the increasingly popular 2005 Castle Combe Rally Day.
The two brothers displayed their driving skills in their Mk2 Ford Escorts in true McRae style. Although down on power from the 4wd machinery they normally drive they both commented that the Escort was much more fun to drive.
A charity auction for a passenger ride in Colin’s Escort raised £610 for Save the Children.
Richard Burns attended this unique rally event where a collection of his original rally cars were on display. These cars spanning his journey from Clubman to World Champion had been meticulously restored and were driven by some of his rallying friends. Colin with Richard’s girlfriend Zoe Keen in the passenger seat drove the Subaru Impreza WRC in which he won the World Rally Championship in 2001. Alister drove Richard’s Group A Subaru Legacy, the car which he competed against in 1993.
During the afternoon Richard Burns and Robert Reid led the parade of cars driven by friends who had been associated with Richards rallying career in honour to England’s only former World Rally Champion.
