Alister leads Zulu Rally
May 26, 2006
Former British Rally Champion Alister McRae co-driven by Gordon Noble leads the Zulu Rally, South Africa’s bid for the World Rally Championship driving the Neil Allport Motorsport Mitsubishi Evo 8.
At the final service area in Durban this evening a very relaxed McRae spoke about his day, “I am pleased with todays performance, I did not think the S2000 cars would be as quick on the fast stages. The times between the S2000’s and the Group N cars are not too far apart on the quicker stages but on the tight twisty roads the S2000’s have a big advantage.

I have finished the day 4 seconds in the lead from Enzo Kuun driving the Volkswagen Polo S2000 and 11 seconds ahead of Serge Damseaux’s S2000 Toyota. I have had a trouble free run today and just slightly altered the suspension settings to pick up more traction.
It is going to be a good fight tomorrow as there are not so many tight and twisty stages. I will try very hard to beat these boys. Two of my quickest stage times today are over tomorrow’s opening stages. There are 123kms of competitive mileage tomorrow and I will be doing my best to prove that the Group N car can be as quick as the Super 2000”.
