One-round rest from Chinese Championship for Alister
Sep 11, 2006
Following the withdrawal of one of the team’s key sponsors, the Wan Yu Rally Team, which Alister McRae drives for in the Chinese Rally Championship, has decided not to enter the third round of the series. It does plan to return for the remaining two rounds with McRae at the wheel however.

Alister and the team have been in constant communication over the last week and as the withdrawal has had implications on the team’s budget, it has decided not to compete and has asked Alister to rest for this one event.
“Of course it’s disappointing,” said Alister, “as we were starting to make some real progress, with the car and with the way the whole team works. But I understand that funding is always an issue and that the team needs time to replace the lost budget.
“I’m sure that we will be back out there for the fourth round of the championship, ready for another good performance and the help the Wan Yu team in its aim of claiming the title this year.”
Alister doesn’t feel that this break will affect the rhythm of the championship though, as at just five rounds, he’s used to extended periods between competing. “It’s not like we’re competing every other weekend, so it won’t be a problem to miss one round and return for the next,” he said.
He will be able to keep his hand in in the UK though, as he will take part in the family’s own event, the McRae Stages, at the end of September in his Mk2 Ford Escort.
