Extra support boosts Alister McRae’s Rally New Zealand challenge
Aug 23, 2007
Former British Rally Champion and works driver for Hyundai and Mitsubishi, Alister McRae, has secured additional support for his challenge on this year’s Rally New Zealand. The Scot is delighted to welcome Waikato Milking Systems to the team, as he makes a one-off return to the FIA World Rally Championship on the 11th round later this month.
Waikato Milking Systems is based in Hamilton on the North Island, home of the rally itself and was formed 28 years ago. Over the years, it has developed and become the market leader in milking systems, supplying New Zealand’s diary industry, one of the country’s key economies.

Moreover, in excess of 40% of the company’s business takes place outside New Zealand, in countries such as the USA, South America, Europe and the UK and its decision to join Alister’s Rally NZ bid is in support of those business connections. It already has an established facility in the UK and feels that partnership with Alister will help to promote the Waikato Milking Systems brand.
“Alister, being a high profile UK driver, will no doubt have the attention of his countrymen, both urban and rural,” said Waikato Milking Systems’ Group Marketing Manager, Dave Cassells. “We feel this is a unique opportunity to profile our brand and help Alister achieve his goal.”
In addition to the support of Waikato Milking Systems, Alister will again be using Silverstone Tyres for his NZ challenge. He is familiar with the brand, having used the Malaysian manufacturers’ products on the first round of the NZ Rally Championship earlier this year, when he ran as high as second overall before technical problems dropped him to eighth.
Rally New Zealand begins on the evening of Thursday 30 August and runs until Sunday 2 September.
