Otago Rally - Blown engine spoils the party...
May 20, 2009
It was great to be back down competing in NZ again especially in the MK II. NZ has the best gravel roads in the world and to be able to show what the MKII can do on them was great and hopefully the spectators had as much fun watching as I did driving.

The first day went really well. We had a problem with the car jumping out of 2nd gear but didn’t loose much time and managed to build up a good cushion for day 2.
The second day started with a 30km blast over the moors and I can honestly its got to be one of the best ways to start a Sunday morning. We continued to open up our lead through the day but unfortunately the engine let go 5kms into the 2nd last stage and the rally was over.

It was disappionting not to get the win but rallying always seems to having something up its sleave for you, and not always good. I’d like to thank the organisers and the team for a nearly perfect weekend and would look forward to going back next year to finish the result properly.

Hi Alister, great to meet you and share a few whiskeys.
Thought you might like a link to my experiences co-driving for team Goatley.

Cheers,
